With the recession dragging on, a growing number of municipalities are seeing less and less officers on the streets. Where there aren't outright cutbacks such as the 89 officers who were laid off in Tulsa since January, places such as New York City are at least not replacing retired officers when they finish their duties. Frank Borelli of Officer.com explains that this means slower response times and less protection. He urges individual citizens to accept responsibility for their own families, though many mayors will not acknowledge this growing need for personal protection.
