The Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) in New York currently makes the entire state database of handgun permits available to the public. New York State Senator Joe Griffo has drafted legislation to protect gun owners in his state from criminals who would use this data as a roadmap to vulnerable citizens or to homes with firearms to steal. Under the parameters of Griffo's bill, the state would respond only to FOIL requests seeking permits for specified individuals, protecting the privacy of general gun owners in his state. Cam Edwards speaks to Tom King, president of the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, about this recent development.
