At The Federalist, King's College assistant professor of Politics Matthew Parks has written, "How Not to Fix the Second Amendment." He addresses comments made in retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens' new book that "five extra words" be added. Those words would fundamentally alter the meaning of the Second Amendment. Parks discusses Founding Father Alexander Hamilton's opposition to the Bill of Rights as detailed in Federalist 28. Hamilton argues that the right to self-defense is a natural right, and therefore not needed as an amendment. He worried that the Bill of Rights would become a limit to natural rights.
