Gun owners in the state of Illinois are required to maintain Firearm Owners Identification Cards (FOIDs), and state police are required to turn these permits over within a 30-day deadline. However, the police are failing to hold up their end, making it difficult for gun owners to keep their FOIDs up to date. Ginny Simone speaks with NRA Illinois Lobbyist Todd Vandermyde who explains that gun owners can still be arrested for not having a valid FOID even though the police who would arrest them are breaking the law and causing the problem. The police claim they are understaffed and using antiquated equipment, but Vandermyde points out that the law is still the law, and that excuse wouldn't work for a gun owner who was arrested.
