Ted "Dutch" Van Kirk, who was navigator on the Enola Gay when it dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, talks to Cam Edwards and Ginny Simone at Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2010 in Washington, DC. Van Kirk says that people need to remember the causes of American involvement in World War II and understand that the atomic bomb was dropped for the sake of ending the war. He discusses how Americans have deviated from the standard set by his generation, and he introduces a new collection of oral histories of his unit, The 509th Remembered.
