State Senator Preston Smith has filed Senate Bill 342 to protect the rights of licensed carry permit holders during a declared state of emergency. Currently the governor of Georgia can both declare a state of emergency and suspend or limit the sale, dispensing or transportation of firearms during an emergency. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina where citizens' Second Amendment rights were undermined when they were most needed, 33 states have passed similar "Emergency Powers" legislation. Sen. Smith tells Cam Edwards that this bill is necessary for Georgia's protection as well.
