While the Illinois House voted 65-32 in favor of a bill that would have allowed licensed, law-abiding Illinois citizens the right to carry firearms outside of the home, a supermajority of 71 votes was needed for the bill to pass. Chicago Mayor Daley worked overtime to defeat the bill, though he has recently requested armed escorts to protect his own safety in public. Ginny Simone speaks with State Representative Brandon Phelps who says the fight for right-to-carry in his state is far from over, and someday law-abiding citizens will be afforded the right to protect their own safety.
