Mexican President Felipe Calderon spoke today at Capitol Hill, and he received a standing ovation after calling for the reinstatement of the federal assault weapons ban, as shown in footage here. Chris Burgard, director of the award-winning documentary film Border (2007), talks to Ginny Simone about the real situation along the violent Mexican border. He says that cartels terrorize unarmed Mexican citizens and wield heavy weaponry that cannot be purchased "from a Wal-Mart in Texas." Burgard explains that the criminal gangs crossing the border are ruthless and sophisticated, and that the Americans in their path must be allowed to defend themselves. Originally aired 5/20/2010.
