Governor Andrew Cuomo has endorsed a plan to extend New York's background check period from three to ten days. It's already been passed by the Democrat-controlled state Assembly. They say it's time to update the SAFE Act gun control law. New York State Rifle and Pistol Association president Tom King says the governor is doubling-down on the largely unenforceable law as part of reelection campaign. Republicans in the Senate have focused instead on protecting schools with a bill to provide more funds for school resource officers. Tom says senators tell him they don't want Cuomo's bill to go through, but with the budgetary process as it is in New York, he can push it through alone it he wants.
