Firearms are used for defensive purposes between 500,000 and 3 million times every year. The Center for Individual Freedom's Tim Lee says that might sound like a talking point for a gun rights activist, but it's not. It's from a study "to research the causes and prevention of gun violence" commissioned by former president Obama in 2013. But, there's more. FSU researcher Gary Kleck estimated defensive gun uses at 2.5 million per year. His results were confirmed - again by the CDC. They conducted polls in 1996, 1997 and 1998 with similar results, but the data was never released. Tim says it didn't support the gun control narrative, so it was quietly filed away.
