Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County, Florida wasted no time following the school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. He held an emergency meeting with police chiefs across the county to ensure that every school has an armed officer to protect students. Sheriff Judd is proud to announce last Friday was the last day without full security coverage. Deputies and members of his Sentinel program are finishing out the school year until the new state Guardian program takes effect in August. But armed security in schools is the last, best chance to stop an active shooter. They must be stopped well in advance with a multi-layered approach. Sheriff Judd says there are always warning signs.
