The Independence Institute's Dave Kopel tells the riveting story of how NRA First Vice President Richard Childress used a firearm to thwart three men who invaded his home in Davidson County, North Carolina, planning to take him and his wife, Judy, hostage. The home invasion was carefully planned by the masked men, who were armed with long guns. They tried and failed to disable the home alarm system. When they approached the bedroom door, he woke, ran and accidentally set off the alarm. He grabbed his Smith & Wesson Shield and fired two warning shots as the men fled. Dave says Richard was his own first responder. In the rural area, police response time was over twenty minutes. Originally aired on Cam & Co 11/27/18.
