Kevin Williamson of the National Review has written about BATFE's efforts to reclassify M855 ammunition as "armor piercing," and environmentalists' attempts to force the EPA to ban traditional lead-based ammunition. Williamson explains the concept of what constitutes "armor piercing," which firearms criminals really use, and how regulations can make affordable ammunition impossible to obtain. He notes that the BATFE reclassification would not reduce crime, and that attention should instead be placed on known criminals, who commit the majority of crimes.
