Tom Day, Marine veteran and founder of Bugles Across America, talks to Ginny Simone about being inspired to create the organization after hearing that most military funerals could not utilize live buglers. Day wanted the men and women of the US military to have the honor of a real person playing Taps at their funeral instead of a recording. His volunteer network of buglers now claims 7,135 members, ranging from a 12-year-old girl to, until his recent death, a 103-year-old man. Day, who views the service as simply a way to thank soldiers and their families, is writing a book on his experiences with Bugles Across America.
