Though she was unable to attend in person, the governor of North Carolina welcomes the attendees of the 2010 NRA Annual Meetings in Charlotte, NC to her state. Gov. Beverly Perdue is the 73rd Governor of North Carolina and the state's first woman to hold that position. Before entering public service, she worked as a public school teacher, as director of geriatric services at a community hospital in her hometown of New Bern, and earned a Ph.D. in Education Administration. Perdue served two terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives and five terms in the state Senate, where she became the first woman to serve as a Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
