H.R. 1865, the Recreational Lands Self-Defense Act, has been introduced by Congressman Jason Altmire to correct a flaw in the public lands bill that was passed in 2009. Ginny Simone speaks with Altmire who explains that right-to-carry in National Parks was legalized in 2009, but 11 million acres of those federal lands are controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers who still have a provision barring the carrying of firearms on that land for self-defense purposes. The new act would correct that gun ban, and an amendment to this year's appropriations bill cuts funding for the enforcement of the ban as well. Originally aired 7/19/2011.
