The best example of getting the most return on a single shot had to be the Punt Gun - this massive firearm unloaded a pound of lead with every shot. A 77-inch smoothbore percussion gun, it was used for market hunting of waterfowl and was capable of bringing down 100 birds with one shot. The thunderous roar of punt guns came to an end in 1900 with the passage of the Lacey Act, which outlawed the transport of wild game across state lines.

The Punt Gun can be seen at the NRA National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia.
