The attack at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida was called an act of terror—a hate crime—by the FBI. For many in the LGBT community, it has become a call to arms to take safety into their own hands. At the Shiloh Gun Range in Houston, Texas, an offer of free concealed carry classes brought an outpouring of participants. "We don't see it as an attack on the gay community," said range owner Jeff Sanford, "we see it as an attack on our fellow Americans." As one of the class participants noted, it felt like she'd been given the gift of self-defense.
