In the final installment of a special series of Curator's Corner from the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum, John Popp and museum director Jim Supica take a look at the three most popular Colts made for the post-Civil War West. Most of these rare variations were engraved by master-engraver Cuno Helfricht. They include the classic Colt Single Action Army, Model 1873, the Colt Double Action, Model 1877 DA and the larger caliber Model 1878 DA. On special order, you could get a shorter barrel. They were designed for shopkeepers or sheriffs as they were easily concealed.
