Firearm can be traced to one of the earliest English settlers. On today's Curator's Corner, John Popp talks to National Firearms Museum Senior Curator Phil Schreier about the "Mayflower Gun," a wheel-lock rifle brought to American in 1620 by John Alden, a Pilgrim aboard the Mayflower. Alden eventually moved further into Massachusetts and in 1654 built a house, where much later the rifle was discovered in a secret compartment. In order to be absolutely certain of the gun's authenticity, the museum's staff consulted Alden's will, where he names the rifle as one of his possessions.
